Telford & Wrekin Co-operative Council replace several products with a single network management software solution
11th October 2012
Based in the West Midlands, Telford & Wrekin Council serves approximately 165,000 citizens and employs around 6,000 members of staff. The unitary authority provisions a complete, end-to-end managed ICT service to over 70 primary, secondary and special educational needs schools. With more than 5,000 classroom workstations, plus a large number of virtual desktops, it was clear that the council required a reliable network management software solution to manage its large, multi-network site.
Forward-thinking in its strategic approach to ICT, the council offered its schools the opportunity to test and evaluate a range of classroom management software solutions as part of the decision making process. After feedback, Telford & Wrekin Council has chosen to implement Impero Education Pro due to its wide functionality and its ability to replace the several disparate single function packages previously in place. Consolidating classroom, desktop and network management software in a single solution, Impero Education Pro has proved essential in enabling the efficient management of the council’s ICT networks, providing delegated responsibilities for each individual school and delivering huge overall cost reductions.
Andy Brookes, Account Manager for the co-operative council, talks about the benefits already discovered: “Safeguarding our students is our number one priority, and Impero enables us to ensure e-safety at all our schools. The scalability of the solution works in conjunction with the broadband network that we also manage, enabling efficient central control of policy whilst retaining devolved operation within each school. The power saving features also align to the Authority’s Carbon Reduction Programme and the overall cost effectiveness means that the solution pays for itself, providing value for money.”
network management software chosen by schools
In addition to driving cost reductions, Telford & Wrekin Council has received positive feedback from all of the schools in their managed service scheme. Teachers have found that students are now more attentive and engaged in lessons, whilst IT Administrators have found the network management software intuitive and easy-to-use.
Andy Brookes continues: “Impero are aware of our long term goals and we feel that they align their product development roadmap to meet our future needs. We are very excited about the future partnership we have formed with the Impero team.”
Telford & Wrekin Council are also looking at the potential to deploy Impero Workplace Pro, Impero’s network management software for the workplace, on a wider basis across the council’s corporate network.
