Academy conversion have you thought about management tools?
29th March 2017
If your school has recently converted to academy status, or is currently progressing through the academy conversion process, you are probably experiencing a lot of internal changes. Whether this is setting up your own contractual agreements, wondering what software solutions are best suited to spend this new found budget on, or simply trying to understand how becoming an academy will impact your school. Panic no longer…
what does becoming an academy mean?
Let’s attack one obstacle at a time. Firstly, what does becoming an academy mean? In laymen’s terms, academies are state run schools which allow teachers and governors more freedom in their provision and budget allocation. Why is this? Once a school has converted to academy status they will receive their money from the central government (rather than through their local authority). Bringing all their funding in-house provides them with the ability to research the various software providers on the market themselves. It is as simple as that!
Some academies will also decide to join with other academies, creating a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT). This structural process simply means that the Trust will be provided with the monetary budget and funding will then be allocated to each individual academy.
If you have recently converted to, or are in the process of becoming, an academy, it is likely that you are currently in the review process. Obtaining quotes, attending webinars and requesting trials left, right, and centre is a top priority. Then there’s ensuring that your school has a solution in place to ensure your teachers have suitable management tools to aid learning, while also guaranteeing that your IT teams are fully equipped with the right software to help support users and devices across the school network. Most important of all, however, are rising concerns and new legislation in relation to keeping your students safe, supporting Ofsted’s ‘whole school’ managed approach to online safety and complying with changes outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE).
Our consolidated solution for classroom management, network management and online safety, Impero Education Pro, can save you the time and the stress of running back and forth from single solution providers for quotes and demonstrations. Enabling you to maximise this new found financial independence and remain in budget, Impero Education Pro provides a number of benefits for the whole school including:
increase return on investment: Our power and print management functionality enables devices to be shut down or powered on at scheduled times, while our print management feature helps to cut down on unnecessary waste. His not only helps schools to reduce their carbon footprint but also save money!

keep students safe: Whether it be students viewing inappropriate content, accessing indecent images, or providing their personal information to unauthorised parties or people and putting them at the risk of being cyberbullied, groomed or in some cases radicalised – online safety risks are endless. This is why Impero Education Pro offers a comprehensive online safety, including real-time monitoring and alerts, screenshot and video evidence, and keyword detection libraries, all designed to provide context and ensure the safety of students.
“With Impero Education Pro we can identify students who are trying to access websites they shouldn’t. Capturing these incidents and talking to the student about it helps reinforce the e-safety strategy, as well as our Prevent Policy.”

focuses learning: It can often be a difficult and somewhat tiring task to ensure all students remain focused and on task during lessons, let alone lessons which involve technological devices. This is why Impero Education Pro includes features such as a live thumbnail view of all student devices, teaching and assessment tools and attention tools. These features are designed to support and empower teachers, while also refocusing learning.
“Teachers use the classroom management side of the product to help focus learning. Keeping a room of 30 students on task can be difficult; with the live thumbnail view, teachers can view all screens in one place and easily identify which students are straying off task.”

Saves time: Impero Education Pro also provides ways of managing workloads and saving time. Take for example this upcoming Easter break: it is likely that your school’s IT team will be advantage of the empty classrooms and pushing out software updates. Saying this, times like these are also useful for Network Managers and IT staff to catch up on their to-do lists. With features such as remote access, licence management and inventory management, Impero Education Pro allows software updates to be pushed out remotely on a mass level to free up time to tick off those long overdue tasks on that daunting to-do list.
