what does becoming an academy mean?

Let’s attack one obstacle at a time. Firstly, what does becoming an academy mean? In laymen’s terms, academies are state run schools which allow teachers and governors more freedom in their provision and budget allocation. Why is this? Once a school has converted to academy status they will receive their money from the central government (rather than through their local authority). Bringing all their funding in-house provides them with the ability to research the various software providers on the market themselves. It is as simple as that!

Some academies will also decide to join with other academies, creating a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT). This structural process simply means that the Trust will be provided with the monetary budget and funding will then be allocated to each individual academy.
