Missisquoi Valley Union Middle/High School (known as MVU), located in Swanton, Vermont, build an active learning community to develop students into responsible and productive citizens. Across two buildings, one for middle school students and the other for high school students, MVU offer a 1:1 initiative where each student is given a Chromebook throughout the day. To supplement its learning management system, MVU needed to control and manage its Chromebooks when using quizzes, discussions and posting assignments.
Before Impero Education Pro, MVU had nothing in place to manage its devices. With only a small amount of PCs at the time, monitoring and managing them was easy. Implementing a 1:1 initiative at MVU drove the decision to look for a monitoring solution to manage the Chromebooks in the classroom.
Since monitoring was the main focus for MVU, it began its search for a new solution via the web and consulting with various members of communities it was associated with. MVU trialled and tested a range of software solutions including Impero Education Pro. After seeing a demonstration of Impero Education Pro, MVU soon realized that the solution offered a perpetual licence where it would own the software for life.
The tech integrationist at MVU described the technical team at Impero as “really good!”. The team walked through Impero Education Pro and showed the technical staff at MVU how it all worked. The tech integrationist and tech specialist at MVU then sat down and followed the instructions provided and contacted the Impero support team to make sure set-up was all as expected.
Since implementing Impero Education Pro, Missisquoi Valley Union Middle/High School has realized several core benefits, including:
supports one-to-one learning – As each student has a Chromebook in the classroom, the live thumbnail views help monitor what students are accessing online, while managing the use of the learning management system.
focus learning – At a glance, teachers can identify what students are accessing online and can easily identify students straying off task. With a quick message, the student can be brought back to the task at hand.
create good digital citizens – Through monitoring student activity, MVU are able to identify students accessing inappropriate content where any action can be taken immediately if necessary.
Q&A with Richard Ballard, Tech Integrationist
how does Impero Education Pro help focus learning in the classroom?
It really does just work well, there’s no lags like other providers. Teachers are interested in it as well! We let them know that we’ve got this service available and there’s been a huge adoption from the middle school teachers now that all students have a Chromebook. We’re mainly utilising Impero Education Pro to keep our students on track. Our teachers make sure they’re staying where they should be and can send a message to them to get back onto the intended site when necessary. One teacher even makes the live thumbnails visible to the whole class, projecting them on the main board, so everyone can see what you’re doing. It helps to keep the students focused on what they’re supposed to be doing rather than going on games and other sites.
There’s tonnes more we could be doing with Impero Education Pro like tracking devices, but at the moment we’re primarily using the monitoring tools.
how would you describe the support team?
Everything’s been really good. They get back to us really quickly – I’m probably the one who doesn’t get back to them as fast! Generally they figure out what’s going on; we’ve had a couple of instances where they’ve remotely logged into our account and got right on it and figured out the problem. The team all really know what they’re talking about.
how would you sum up Impero?
Easy to use software.
