In a city with more than 1 million people, Metropolitan School District of Pike Township is located in an urban residential community and is home to a range of socially and culturally diverse students. The award winning school district believes in engaging in a learning process that uses a variety of instructional approaches, including the use of various platform devices. In order to support this belief, Pike Township needed a new, more reliable classroom management solution.
Prior to Impero Education Pro, Pike Township was utilizing multiple pieces of software to cover its classroom management and network management needs. Azure, used for network management, was a stable solution that allowed Pike Township to support the network. However PC Anywhere, used for classroom management, was very hit-and-miss and occasionally left teachers without a solution to control student devices. This drove Pike Township to search for a more stable classroom management solution which provided monitoring and ensured its instructional approach to learning was successful throughout the district.
As the search for a new solution began, the Director of Technology at Pike Township mentioned Impero Education Pro, a solution they had been using actively in their previous role at another school district. The IT team decided to look into Impero Education Pro further to ensure it would fit with the IT infrastructure and work across the variety of devices at Pike Township. It didn’t take long for the IT team to decide that the software was a good solution to pursue.
With 17 servers, implementing and setting up Impero Education Pro took some fine-tuning to ensure the solution was up and running the way Pike Township required. However, once initial implementation steps were completed, pushing out the client was simple and worked very well across the district network.
Since implementing Impero Education Pro, Metropolitan School District of Pike Township has realized several core benefits, including:
easily create test machines – With Impero Education Pro, Pike Township can power on all machines, log on test accounts and create allow lists for certain websites or applications (as specified), with the click of a few buttons.
saves time – The remote support functionality allows Pike Township to administrate from one location, there is no need to run backwards and forwards between buildings to fix IT issues.
real-time monitoring – Pike Township already have a firewall in place to prevent students accessing any illegal content, however using Impero Education Pro they are able to monitor student activity for inappropriate or at-risk content and search student activity by user.
Q&A with Duane Judd, District Technician
how does Impero Education Pro make your job easier?
It’s straightforward and easy to understand. After the initial 20 minutes of training, learning where things were and how to use relevant features, remote monitoring district devices across the network became easy. We no longer have to travel 10 miles to the furthest school building, I can now remote directly from my desk and see what the problem is and fix it there and then. Impero Education Pro also gives teachers greater responsibility to actively monitor student activity in the classroom leaving us to deal with the IT issues at hand. But we’re still learning the ins and outs, so we’ve got a lot more to learn!
how has Impero Education Pro helped teachers take back control in the classroom?
To help get the class up and running quickly, teachers schedule the computers in the lab to power on all the machines. For elementary students, teachers use Impero Education Pro to monitor what students are accessing online as well as helping to open up websites for each student. These younger students need greater computer assistance and typing simple phrases can be difficult, let alone typing in a web link. Teacher can now simply push out the web link and it will automatically open it on all devices, saving them so much time. Like our younger students, Impero Education Pro is also used to monitoring student activity in upper school and ensure students are completing the task at hand.
how would you describe the support team?
The support team are great – when we’ve had a problem, their development team have been fast to respond and have got our issues handled and straightened out quickly. They’ve generally been a very great help.
how would you sum up Impero?
More than just a remoting tool.
