Real-time web content filtering for a safe online learning environment

Providing the web security tools that US schools and school districts need to create a positive, productive and safe internet experience, Impero web:check ensures learners are protected from inappropriate or malicious web content. Supporting child protection legislation such as CIPA, our web content filtering solution detects over 150 million new URLs daily (in over 45+ languages) and dynamically categorizes these in real-time using a comprehensive AI solution.

Available on-premise or cloud-hosted, Impero web:check supports a centralized management approach to web content filtering allowing school districts to delegate administrative permissions to each school as they see fit. Using in-depth analytics, schools can manipulate and transfer network traffic data into customizable, easy-to-read reports. The tools are designed to help save technical teams time, all while providing an extra layer of protection to the school network.

Using Impero web:check alongside Impero Education Pro protects students at a network level and a device level. With real-time monitoring and keyword detection, Impero Education Pro highlights any online dangers students may be accessing and allows staff to mediate before a situation escalates.

Key Features

Real-time web content categorization

Classifying millions of websites daily, using categorization name service (CNS), a comprehensive AI solution, web content is categorized into 90+ database categories, including extremism, weapons, sexual education and substance abuse, which are made available for schools in real-time.

Selective SSL inspection

Allowing for the filtering of encrypted traffic in the same way as unencrypted traffic, the secure socket layer decryption provides categorization for HTTP, HTTPS and FTP web traffic protecting school networks from virus-based threats and proxy avoidance.

Multi-site filtering & management

Providing filtering services to multiple locations in a single deployment, school districts can centrally apply policy management and reporting requirements to all policy servers, whilst delegating administrative permissions to each school (where these policies and reports can be tailored if required).

Granular policy management

Applying web filtering actions at a granular level, where access is applied at a school district, school, group (students/staff) or individual user basis, ensures the right access is provided to the right user. Using time and calendar-based permissions opens web access to users outside of learning hours.

In-depth analytics & custom reports

Simplifying the analysis of network traffic (highlighting data such as specific requests, websites and user inputted data) schools can manipulate and transform this data into 40+ predefined or customizable, easy to read reports. These reports can be scheduled to run as frequently as required and can be shared with other users with ease.

Off-network device filtering

Enforcing filtering across Windows, Mac, Chrome, iOS and Android, proprietary technology makes policy decisions within the client itself, ensuring any device connected to a Wi-Fi network is secure. Regardless of location, users are protected and traffic is delivered directly back to the school via a device filter, available as an add-on to Impero web:check.

Per-user filtering

Supporting integration with popular directory service systems, such as Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Directory, Apple Open Directory and Google Directory, individual users can be identified using IP address or directory synchronization, allowing schools to easily flag users who are abusing the network or at risk of harm.

Multi-lingual filtering

Reviewing URL data in over 45+ languages (including Spanish, French, Arabic and Italian, and many more), schools have the confidence to detect high-risk categories in other languages, particularly useful for those students where English is a second language.

Safe Search control

Enforcing the “Safe Search” functionality across popular web search engines such as Google, Bing and YouTube, students have an additional layer of safety from potentially offensive content.
