An event summary of our travels across the U.S. and Canada
29th November 2017
As November comes to a close, we’re looking back over our last couple of months to put together an event summary of all the shows and conferences that we have attended in the U.S. and Canada. We’ve attended four shows over the last couple of weeks which has helped us connect with our customers and get a better understanding of the problems specific areas are having with technology. Find our where we’ve been and where we’re heading in our event summary below.
where have we been?
event summary: ATLE Convergence Conference- Oct 25-27
At the end of October, we went to Calgary in Canada to exhibit at the ATLE Convergence Conference alongside our partner Contego Tech. The association continues to focus on the three founding pillars – learning, leadership, and technology. The board fosters services of value to its members and encourages professional learning opportunities. Activities are guided by the mission of ATLE: “Supporting education through the convergence of learning, leading, and technology”. We listened to a number of presentations exploring all aspects of educational technology and found the event very informative.
“ATLE was a great way to start our partnership with Contego Tech. The show was fantastically put together by a great team, it’s allowed us to start working with multiple districts within Alberta alongside hearing great feedback from our customers.” – Connor Allen, Business Development Manager
event summary: Digital Citizenship Summit- Nov 2-3
Running for its third year, the annual Digital Citizenship Summit held in this year in Provo, UT, brought together hundreds of parents, educators, students and industry partners to celebrate technology and the plethora of opportunities that it provides for children and young people. With this year’s theme of EXPAND, the DigCitSummit sparked powerful conversations on how we, as a collective community, expand the conversation around kids and technology, expand our network and ultimately, expand our shared impact towards a more positive DigCit culture.
“It was a very informative few days with incredible talks from experts in the field. It was lovely to speak to some of our existing Impero customers and find out how our software has been helping their schools. It was a pleasure to receive such great feedback “– James Grew, Head of Sales
In line with this event, we also launched our latest white paper “Prevention Science: A Framework for Positive Citizenship”. This whitepaper takes an in-depth look at how the principles of prevention science can be used to promote positive digital citizenship among young people. Download this here.
event summary: The Georgia Educational Technology Conference (GaETC) – Nov 8-10
The Georgia Educational Technology Conference was held in Atlanta and was host to technology educators from across the entire state of Georgia. We’ve been supporting the school districts of Georgia for over 7 years so it was fantastic for us to meet with many of our existing customers and to get great feedback on how they’re using Impero Education Pro to enhance and focus teaching and learning. A key discussion topic this year was around using technology to support internet safety to keep students safe online, it showed how a monitoring solution like Impero Education Pro can support a school district’s safeguarding policy in areas such as bullying and self-harming.
Special mention must go to Mr Tim Suda, Technology Specialist at Banks County Schools who presented during the conference. He discussed his adoption of a 1:1 initiative and how Impero EdLink has been an integral part to the successful implementation. It was evident from conversations on the booth that many districts are sharing a similar journey and collaboration with Tim was great for them to share ideas for their own successful implementation.
‘It was our first visit to the GaETC conference but one I thoroughly enjoyed and found very informative. It was so pleasing to hear such great feedback on our products from our customers and partners who attended the event. We very much look forward to our continued growth and support of educational establishments across Georgia’- Alex Ball, Head of US Sales
event summary: California Educational Technology Professionals Association- Nov 14-17
CETPA 2017 was held in Pasadena, California and featured acclaimed keynote speakers such as history making U.S. Astronaut, Captain Scott Kelly. The location of the event was particularly convenient as the convention center was only an hour away from our US head office in Simi Valley. After a few days of set up, and an extra run to the electronics store or two, we had the booth ready to go. It was great to not only meet existing customers for the first time, but learn from the invaluable and great feedback and experiences they have had with Impero at their schools.
A common topic of conversation during the show, that comes as no surprise, was the growing landscape for Chromebooks and how teachers have had to acclimate this change in the classroom. 1:1 initiatives and greater access to the internet provides an incredibly powerful tool that can be a key to limitless potential. But while it’s fantastic to be able to empower our students in this way, we still need to take the necessary steps to ensure the monitoring of online dangers that may accompany this increased access to technology.
Thursday featured a full day of demos and great conversations as the mix of introductions and familiar faces continued. Overall, the conference was terrific and very informative! Pasadena proved to be the perfect spot for the event.
“This is the second year in a row Impero has been at CETPA and it may just be the best one yet! It was great to be able to meet so many people who feel so passionate about our software and the ways it can be used. We can’t wait to be back for CETPA ’18 next year.” – Spencer Bashforth – West Coast Business Development Manager
