Outcomes for

secondary schools

The importance of integrated secondary school software has become more important than ever. Even before they hit their teenage years, today’s UK secondary school students are more tech-savvy than ever before. Armed with the latest gadgetry, chances are they’ve been tweeting, blogging and gaming online for years. This notion is backed-up by the UK Safer Internet Centre, which highlighted in its 2017 online safety briefings that young people no longer view the online world as separate to the real world. This discovery, along with regular updates to the Department for Education’s KCSiE guidance, is forcing UK secondary schools to transform their approach to online safety and EdTech.

the first to respond to the changing online safety and EdTech landscape

Impero has partnered with a range of internationally-recognised charities and organisations, including the IWF and SafeBAE (a charity co-founded by sexual assault survivors who appeared in the NETFLIX documentary Audrie & Daisy) to ensure that we’re the first to respond to the changing online safety and EdTech landscape. Using new technology and expert advice, Impero’s solutions are trusted by secondary schools across the UK to enhance learning and safeguard students.

Our flagship product for education, Impero Education Pro, is compliant with the UK Safer Internet Centre’s appropriate monitoring provider checklist.

2017 has also seen the UK government offer cyber security training for young people to ensure future protection of cyber defences. Since technology is one of the fastest growing areas of the UK’s economy, it’s essential that students leave school armed with the practical knowledge and expertise to thrive in further education and throughout their careers.  As secondary schools recognise this fact, the traditional classroom is being replaced by a growing number of computer suites and BYOD and 1:1 programmes, transforming the environment in which students learn. The question is, how can schools manage it?

As UK secondary schools continue to invest in new technology to enhance the learning experience, Impero Education Pro secondary school software has been developed in response to rising concerns around safeguarding and online safety, including new legislation outlined in the DfE’s KCSiE guidance and Ofsted and ISI frameworks. Working with our broad range of online safety partners, we’re proud to offer the most comprehensive online safety solution for UK secondary schools, providing an extensive list of keyword detection libraries, real-time monitoring, access management, and activity logs and incident handling. There’s also an integrated anonymous reporting tool for students to voice concerns (also another requirement outlined in UK school inspectorates, including Ofsted, ISI, Estyn and Education Scotland) to help schools to facilitate effective online safety. What’s more, with everything in one system, it’s simple to monitor and simple to report on activity.

Keeping students on task and engaged is easier said than done, when a multitude of online distractions are laid out in front of them. With Education Pro secondary school software, teachers have access to a handy suite of classroom control and instruction tools, from real-time monitoring, assessment tools, access management and screen broadcasting, designed to focus learning and remove distractions. Education Pro’s online safety feature is seamlessly integrated, so that teaching staff can deal with online safety risks that occur in their lessons, supporting Ofsted’s whole school approach to online safety.

Impero Education Pro started life as a network administration tool. That’s why it’s also great for UK school IT teams to streamline networks and improve efficiency. A suite of network management features helps to improve efficiency, such as updating software and performing general maintenance, replacing several manual (and laborious) processes. Remote control and support allows technical issues to be solved across the network, while intelligent power and print management functionality saves time, enabling energy usage to be closely tracked and, as budgets decrease, helping schools to cut costs.

Impero iSafeguard

When it comes to something as critical as safeguarding, UK secondary schools can’t afford to take risks with inadequate staff training programmes. It’s even more crucial in light of legal requirements published by the DfE in Keeping Children Safe in Education, which specifies that all staff working in UK secondary schools must undergo regular safeguarding and child protection training at least once a year. Has your secondary school considered how it will comply with this latest requirement?

Impero have partnered with safeguarding experts Victvs to develop Impero iSafeguard, an e-learning hub designed with convenience in mind. It’s a comprehensive course which covers all twelve of the areas outlined by DfE, including the Prevent duty, child sexual exploitation and mental health, and equips staff with the knowledge and skills to handle safeguarding risks with confidence. A forum gives users access to the wider safeguarding community, where they can share advice and experiences, or ask questions as they work through the modules. Staff progress can also be monitored through the portal, so your school can prove compliance during inspections.

Impero EdLink

What about mobile device management? Compatible with Android, iOS and Chrome OS, Impero EdLink is designed to be used alongside Impero Education Pro to enable UK secondary schools to support BYOD and 1:1 programmes, while protecting students and their devices. IT teams are afforded an array of tools to control student-owned and school-owned mobile devices by managing access to content and enabling/disabling settings, as per the establishment’s requirements and acceptable use policies. This centralised approach to MDM serves to keep students protected from the myriad risks of working online when using mobile devices to enable learning.

The general management of mobile devices is also simplified; UK secondary schools can control device settings by pushing out actions in bulk, such as installations and updates, or enforcing safe search or forcing single application mode. With granular reporting, inventory management and geo-location technology, Impero EdLink is designed to help support successful mobile device integration and realise the benefits of mobile learning throughout secondary schools across the UK.

Impero Insight

Impero Insight transforms a secondary school’s Impero data into stunning, graphical reports that can be viewed, compared or contrasted on any device type. Powered by Microsoft’s industry-leading BI engine, and an addition to Education Pro, Impero Insight is an advanced, cloud-based, reporting and analytics module. It automatically pulls data from one or multiple servers into pre-defined, rich-visual dashboards, enabling staff to view data from both individual schools and all schools within a Multi-Academy trust (MAT). Secondary schools and MATs can then view, compare and contrast data to help inform decision-making, related to safeguarding for example. By identifying safeguarding trends, across one school or the whole MAT, UK secondary schools are empowered to make the most informed responses, including addressing such issues with the students directly.

Automatically pulling data from one or multiple servers into pre-defined, rich-visual dashboards, Impero Insight enables education establishments to view and report on data to help inform decision-making, such as those related to safeguarding. By identifying safeguarding trends, education establishments are empowered to make the most informed responses, including addressing such issues with the students directly.

What’s more, dedicated tailored dashboards can be set up for relevant stakeholders, such as those responsible for safeguarding. With secure authenticated access permissions, education establishments can ensure that the right people have visibility of the right information relevant to their role.
