Pastoral care staff
Australian teenagers now have, on average, three social media accounts and a huge 78% use the online world for schoolwork, according to research by the Australian government’s Office of the Children’s Commissioner. But with 52% of young children and teenagers stating that they were adversely affected after experiencing a negative incident online, pastoral care teams are seeing a rise in online safety issues.
Typically the first point of contact for students at risk, you’ll be required to assess information about pastoral concerns, including those relating to online safety, and determine the most appropriate response. Technology is now fully locked into education; students no longer view the online world as separate to the real world, with 85% of young people seeing the internet as important in their lives.
